What the Liberal Democrats don't put in their leaflets - warning

Nick Clegg claimed that he was proud of the Lib Dem voting record on law and order. I wonder what it was he was most proud of? Opposing ASBOs, voting against the power to shut down crack houses or lowering the drinking age to 16?

Next time you contemplate voting for the Liberal Democrats remember that their policies would destroy the lives of law abiding, hard working families!

When it comes to action at local level, the Lib Dems may talk tough but their record is different. They voted against Labour's Anti Social Behaviour Act which introduced powers to close crack houses; against the power to disperse groups causing harassment or intimidation; against restricting airgun ownership; and against extending penalty notices for disorder to 16 and 17 year olds. And they have said they will end all jail sentences for drug possession, legalise the sale of cannabis and not penalise those who grow it.

Richard Scorer, Labour Parliamentary spokesperson for Hazel Grove says, "The Lib Dems can't be a credible party while they remain out of touch on crime. They obviously have no regard for the views of local people.''

SEPTEMBER 2007: GORDON BROWN'S BIG SPEECH

On 24th September 2007 Prime Minister Gordon Brown set out his latest policies including:

  • New measures to help police cut down on paperwork and keep them on the beat
  • Measures to tackle underage drinking including taking licences away from retailers who sell drink to under age kids
  • Tackling drug pushers including new police powers against drug dealers and crack houses
  • Action on the environment including more "Eco-Towns" and more zero carbon homes and businesses
  • A new grant to help less well off families access higher education
  • In the NHS - more Matrons and more powers for Matrons to keep hospitals clean
  • New government money for cancer research and treatment
  • Restoring the link between state pension and earnings

Richard Scorer, Labour parliamentary spokesperson for Hazel Grove, says: "The Prime Minister's speech showed a massive difference between a Labour Leader who is full of ideas and energy and leads a united party, and the Liberal Democrat and Tory leaders who have no idea what they're doing, where they're going or how to get there It is becoming increasingly clear that the liberal democrats offer no vision for the country or this area".
